System of Spatial Orientation in ALEUT

Abstract

Institute for Linguistic Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences, 9, Tuchkov pereulok, St. Petersburg, 199053, Russian Federation The Aleut language has a complex system of spatial orientation which is basically reflected in pointing words and postpositions. Based on the field materials, this article presents semantic features that are relevant for the system of pointing words; it also provides an analysis of the meaning and functions of postpositions.
