New coinages in English of the 21st century: some tendencies in word-formation and functioning
Abstract
The article deals with word-formation patterns, which have been most dynamic in recent years. It is stated that the rate of the development in certain fields of human society can trigger some word-formation processes in corresponding semantic groups. The analysis of the new coinages resulted in finding out some new tendencies beside the regularity of use among word-formation patterns. The semantic changes in new words can also be described as compressed, which points out their dependence on the general progress in life.
