Myth of woman in Frank Wedekind’s play “Lulu”
Abstract
The article looks at the two plays by the German playwright Frank Wedekind — “Earth spirit” and “The Pandora’s box”. The author discusses the conception of gender stereotypes in the epoch of the Fin de Siecle and their variations in the Wedekind’s “Lulu” plays. The article attempts to show the reflection of a typical woman’s portrait of the end of the 19th century in the modern art and literature. It also seeks to analyze the pioneering Wedekind’s character of Lulu coupled together the experience of his generation, his personal vision and philosophy as well as the new ideas in the culture of the 20th century. The author also attempts to demonstrate the myth of the woman created by Wedekind in the feminist discourse of the 20th century.
