Abstract

The article discusses Christian theological symbols in the homily ‘On Jonah’ by Ephrem the Syrian, Syriac poet and theologian of the 4th century. The book uses oriental Christian literature symbols, such as ‘robe of glory, ‘mystery’, ‘mirror’, ‘healer’, ‘king’. They allow to reveal methods of the Old Testament typological exegesis in the works of Ephrem the Syrian and reflect the Christological interpretation of the Prophet Jonah’s figure in the sermon.
