Concerning Some New Testament Allusions in “Exegesis on the Soul” (ExS 134. 29–34 /NHC II.6/)
Abstract
This article considers possible allusions to Apostle Paul’s writings in the treatise ‘Exegesis on the Soul’ from the Coptic library of Nag Hammadi. Though several articles do focus on the biblical quotes applied in this work, most researchers still fail to address indirect references to the Holy Scriptures in the Nag Hammadi library. Based on two Greek words following closely in the chosen passage (χάρις and δωρεά) and on the similarity of the themes, the article draws the conclusion that the author could have implied Ephesians 2:8-9 or other similar passages from Paul’s epistles along those line.
