Страх, отвращение, смех. Регистры гротеска в романе Д. Вонга

В современной научной парадигме литературу ужасов зачастую трактуют, основываясь на концепции отвращения, во многом благодаря работам Ю. Кристевой и Н. Кэрролла, инспирированным М. Дуглас. Вместе с тем равным образом феноменологический анализ и данные когнитивных наук демонстрируют принципиальное различие аффектов страха и отвращения. Принимая во внимание, что вышеуказанные критики понимают отвращение как категориальную аномалию, допустимо сделать вывод, что в основе их понимания отвратительного лежит более широкая эстетическая категория, известная как гротеск. С опорой на труды М. М. Бахтина, А. Колнаи и С. Асмы можно продемонстрировать, что гротескные образы способны не только вызывать реакции отвращения, но также, в зависимости от контекста, смешить или вызывать страх. В некоторых случаях реакция может оказаться существенно менее определенной, пограничной, поскольку, в полном соответствии с карнавальной поэтикой, сформулированной Бахтиным, гротескные образы амбивалентны. Данный тезис иллюстрируется на материале автора постмодернистского хоррора Дэвида Вонга (псевдоним Дж. Парджина), который известен тенденцией смешивать пугающее и комическое в смелых пропорциях. Широко используя поэтику гротескного реализма, Вонг в то же время не чурается демонстрировать, что в некоторых случаях принижение пугающих образов с целью превращения в «смешное страшилище» не срабатывает, и космическое гротескное тело может оказаться возвышенным вопреки подчеркиванию его сниженной анатомии. Рассмотрение различных неоконченных и становящихся тел в романе Вонга иллюстрирует, как инструментарий гротеска может использоваться для достижения самых разных целей, от фарсовой комики до экзистенциального ужаса, а также промежуточных форм, чья эффективность во многом завязана именно на контрасте. Таким образом, гротескная гибридность свойственна хоррору не только на тематическом и формальном, но и на прагматическом уровне — в сфере вызываемых у читателя эмоций.
