Abstract

The present research is an attempt at comparative analysis of poetic texts by Nikolay Gumilyov and Sasha Chоrny in the aspect of literary onomastics. Our interest was inspired by chronological and event coincidences in the biographies of the poets. We try to reveal common and specific features in the use of proper names in poetic texts of the authors. We examine proper names (writers and poets) mentioned in the texts, analyse their semantics and compare the selected contexts. There are 171 proper names were selected, described each proper name occurring in the texts from the point of view of its contextual meaning, referential meaning, and participation in the unfolding of the theme of the text. The proper names of the specified thematic group occurring in the texts of only one of the authors were reviewed in an overview. We used semantic analysis, comparative method and method of interpretation to identify the patterns in the implementation of contextual semantics of poetonyms and make assumptions about their role in the poetics of the texts. The poetonyms found in both systematically implement different types of referential meanings: in N. S. Gumilyov’s texts, in most cases they refer directly to literary figures as figures of history and culture, and in Sasha Chorny’s texts they more often become a means of characterizing people or certain value-based or aesthetic communities.
